News: Export Demand for China’s HEDP 60% Keeps Rising
Oct 30,2026
**Summary:** HEDP 60%, a classic organophosphorus scale and corrosion inhibitor from China, enjoys booming export orders. It features high thermal stability and excellent chelating performance, widely adopted in water treatment, textile auxiliaries, oilfield scale control and metal finishing. Major buyers include water treatment formulators, chemical distributors, textile factories and oilfield service companies. Key target markets cover South Asia, Southeast Asia, Turkey, the Middle East and Africa. Driven by global industrial water recycling trends, the HEDP market is expected to grow steadily, while suppliers face challenges from raw material price swings and stricter phosphorus emission regulations.
Recently, HEDP 60% (1-Hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid), a core organophosphorus scale and corrosion inhibitor, has witnessed growing export orders from China and become a popular fine chemical in overseas trade. As a high-temperature resistant, hydrolysis-stable chelating agent, HEDP 60% is widely purchased by overseas formulation factories, chemical distributors, textile auxiliary manufacturers and oilfield service companies. It is an essential raw material in global industrial water treatment formulations.
HEDP 60% liquid is the most traded specification in international business. It appears as colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid. It remains stable at up to 250°C and shows good tolerance to chlorine and acid-base conditions. It can strongly chelate calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and other metal ions, restrain the crystallization of calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate via threshold effect, and deliver corrosion inhibition performance. Better synergistic effects can be achieved when blended with ATMP, PAA and zinc salts.
Water treatment formulators form the largest buyer group. They use HEDP to produce finished scale and corrosion inhibitors for circulating cooling water, boiler water and RO membrane systems for power plants, chemical plants, metallurgy facilities and central air-conditioning systems. Textile auxiliary factories are another major buyer, applying HEDP as hydrogen peroxide bleach stabilizer and chelating agent to prevent fabric damage, color unevenness and rust stains caused by iron and manganese ions. Oilfield chemical companies represent high-value customers, using HEDP for water injection and pipeline scale control, with strict requirements on impurities such as phosphite and chloride ions. Besides, industrial cleaner manufacturers, cyanide-free electroplating plants and detergent additive producers also place regular orders.
China is one of the major global suppliers of HEDP. Large volumes are exported to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Turkey, South Africa, the Middle East and Nigeria. Southeast Asia and South Asia maintain steady demand driven by concentrated textile industries. Oil and gas projects in the Middle East and Africa boost orders for anti-scale chemicals. The European and American markets have higher access thresholds, requiring compliance with REACH, TSCA and other regulations, alongside tight control over purity and impurities.
Industry insiders note that stricter overseas policies on water conservation, water recycling and desalination continuously push up demand for scale inhibitors. Compared with traditional inorganic phosphates, HEDP features lower dosage and better cost performance, suitable for high-hardness and high-salinity water, which fuels its rising penetration in emerging markets. Different buyers have different focuses: distributors prioritize pricing, lead time and full set of customs documents; formulators pay close attention to calcium chelating value, phosphite and phosphate content; oilfield clients value high-temperature stability and salt resistance.
The industry also faces challenges. Fluctuating raw material prices of phosphite affect HEDP production costs. Meanwhile, tightening regulations on phosphorus chemical discharge in some regions push manufacturers to optimize production processes and develop low-impurity grades. It is projected that the global HEDP market will maintain an annual growth rate of 4%–6% in the coming years.
For Chinese chemical exporters, HEDP 60% is a rigid-demand fine chemical with high repeat purchase rate. It is ideal to target overseas formulators and local chemical distributors, and provide customized grades plus complete compliance documents including MSDS and COA for different regional markets.
