Carbon black is a fine powder produced by incomplete combustion of a carbonaceous material (petroleum or coal tar). Its composition is mainly carbon element, and contains a small amount of oxygen, hydrogen and sulfur. It is a pure black particle or powder, which is nearly spherical, insoluble in water, acid and alkali, and can be burned in the air to become carbon dioxide.
